I started creating my little owls about 3 years ago as Christmas presents for my family. I wanted to create personalized ornaments that could either be hung in the family Christmas tree, or hung around the house all year round. After a few requests from family friends for their own owls, I thought I'd try my hand at selling them on Etsy.
Why owls? I have never been a morning person. All my creative energy is at it's best past midnight. "Night owl" has been a nickname of mine since I was a little kid. I've always personified owls as having a sweet, quiet, thoughtful demeanor. And they're cute!
I've been sewing since I was about 7 years old, when my mother taught me how to quilt, and over the years I have amassed a very eclectic fabric collection from all my various sewing projects. From this collection I chose almost all of the fabrics for my owls; it's fun digging through the array of textures, colors and patterns, deciding which yard of material gets to become an owl! My favorite part is picking out the finishing touches of necklaces, bow ties and scarves; embroidering the beak, and adding the button eyes... watching as the little owl come to life!
